Colonial Williamsburg and Christmas Town

This was our first year not traveling to family for Christmas. We were sad to miss out on the festivities with everyone, but the holiday really was great. We were able to get big toys (not in price but in size) for our kids because we didn't have an airplane to board, and they got to play with them all day long. Then, we extended our Christmas with a little trip down to Williamsburg.

We drove down the day after Christmas. We had originally planned to leave on Christmas day, but we were just too tired. (Felix is teething and sleep has not been easy for anyone.) Beckett was an absolute jewel on the way down. He told me he is going to be nice everyday from now on. Okay. I'll take that. Beckett loves hotels so he was really excited for the trip. We went to the hotel pool that night, so that really solidified Beckett's love for the hotel.

Beckett has his own little bed that we take on trips to hotels. It fit right in between the two beds. Felix also had his own bed--the portable crib, but he only lasted in it until 1:00am and then he spent the rest of the night with me in my bed. In the morning we set out for a big day.

We spent the day at Colonial Williamsburg.The weather was beautiful. Nate and I didn't even wear our coats.

My favorite part was the Governor's Palace. Our tour guide was really great. (CW is a living history museum so everyone dresses and acts like they live in 1774.)

I also really enjoyed the wig shop. Even my hair is not long enough be fashioned into colonial hairstyles. (I bet it's pretty close. I could probably get away with just a few additional hair pieces.)

The kids' favorite part was definitely the ice cream. (Beckett hated Colonial Williamsburg. He wanted to go back to the hotel. "We need to go back to the hotel.")

Williamsburg was the capital on Virginia for 80 years. Issues of the revolution were debated here.

Originally we thought we would spend a couple of days in Williamsburg, but after our delayed start we had to cram the two big excursions into one day, so after we left Colonial Williamsburg we headed over to Busch Gardens to go to Christmas Town (Christmas Town doesn't open until 3pm, so we couldn't have gone much earlier). Christmas Town might be the most Christmasy thing I have ever done. There are millions of Christmas lights and lots of Christmas trees (including a huge one that had choreographed lights). The kids were too little to go on many rides, but just walking around was fun because of all the lights and music. We rode a train and the carousel.
