Goodbye Accord

Maybe you're like me if you would say that losing a car ranks somewhere between losing a dog and losing a goldfish. I certainly won't be mourning like when I lost my boyhood companion of 10 years, but I did feel a familiar bitter-sweet sorrow when I turned over the keys to my trusted auto. I sold the Accord today.

The Accord had an adventurous life. It drove across the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City. It visited the Mall of America in Minnesota and Dealey Plaza in Dallas. It drove to the Alta ski resort at 8500 feet and to Disneyland at 830 feet. It has been to Virginia Beach and Long Beach, Kitty Hawk and Newport, the Donner Pass and the Salt Flats. It was registered in states from all 4 time zones (California, Utah, Kansas, and Virginia). After 9 years I had driven it over 140,000 miles, most of which were trip miles.

I was sad to see it go, but unlike the dog from my childhood, this companion was sold out for a newer, healthier, and more reliable companion.

Definitely a proper goodbye. I knew JoLee was sentimental with cars, I'm glad it is in the family! What an adventurous little auto!

Wow, I didn't know you had been to all those places. That is a nice car Nate, which makes me curious what the new one is. Let me guess, an SUV or a Minivan ;)

Yes, the car LOOKS nice, but it has several problems (not the least of which is 185k miles). We bought a RAV4, which is a small SUV. You can visit Kansas and shoot me personally when I buy a minivan.

So, you made me a little nostalgic for my car and I haven't even sold it yet. You should frame the cars and put them on your walls OR make a book of all the places they've been and give it to the new owner. I wanna shoot you personally! ;) You just might get shot...you never know what the future holds.

The genetics live on strong--. Good work, Nate and congrats on the
Rav4!!
(btw) Brooke has some pretty cute ideas-you and JoLee have already had some adventurous cars..(you could include them in your life history like your Grandpa J did)
