Train Ride

Beckett's love of trains, which began about a year and a half ago, has not diminished at all. It has only grown, so we've become members of the B&O Railroad Museum.

A bunch of really old trains are displayed in the historic roundhouse.
Below Beckett is in one of the first passenger cars. It was actually pulled along the rails by a horse.
The museum also has some really large, more modern engines.
The kids can explore all the levers and machinery in the engine.

A couple of Saturdays ago we went to the B&O Railroad Museum again. This time we wanted to ride the train.

This bright engine pulled our train.
The train has a conductor that calls "All Aboard" and then comes around to punch everyone's tickets. Beckett loved his train ticket.
Felix hung out on the seat.
Then we were off. Would you like to come on the train ride with us?

We passed some barbed wire and boarded up garages,
ruins,

and lots of rundown, graffited train cars.
And the ride ends at the junkyard (no joke).
Now just imagine seeing all this scenery as you rumble by at a brisk 2 miles per hour. Yep. That's one train ride I never need to take again, but, seeing as I live with a train enthusiast I'll probably get to do the ride over and over. Aw well, at least Beckett gets to see his beloved--albeit rundown, rusty, and graffited--hopper car (currently a favorite) out the window.

I just felt like I was watching a Mr. Rogers episode. There is an awesome Heber Creeper ride here in Utah! I want to go on it with Beckett.

We dream of a ride as beautiful as the Heber Creeper.

By the way, Beckett not only loved the train ride he also loved this post.

You didn't have any pictures of the random garbage dumped all over! I'm glad that Beckett got to ride the train. We will have to try and go with you again sometime.

My kids love that train museum. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that felt like the train ride didn't have the greatest views. I have gone on it several times and I'm not sure it gets too much better. Sometime I would like to hear the history they are sharing over the speakers in the train. My kids haven't ever been quiet enough for me to hear. :-) Great pictures.
