At the Zoo

Last weekend Nate and I went up to Omaha to see my mom and the Colorado Springs Children's Chorale. The Children's Chorale was on their way to Chicago (via bus) for a music festival and stopped off in Omaha for a concert and a trip to the awesome Omaha Zoo. So Nate and I decided that this was a great chance to take a trip to Omaha, go to Winter Quarters, hear the chorale perform, visit the zoo, and most importantly hang out with my mom.

Below are some of the interesting creatures we saw at the zoo.

In the Desert Dome, the world's largest indoor desert, we saw this small, deer-like creature, and 2 day old ducklings. The ducklings were tiny, but they were swimming around like crazy.






The Henry Doorly Zoo is the home of this White Alligator. Apparently, there are only 13 white alligators in the world, and they are not albinos. This alligator's skin is white as a result of a rare genetic mutation called leucism. Leucistic animals have no melanin in their skin so they look white. The alligator is 19-years old, 8-feet long, and 180 pounds.


We made a stop in the aquarium to watch the penguins and see the sharks.


Even though I had some food on a stick too, the parakeets in the Budgie Experience liked my mom a lot more than they liked me.


On the way into the largest indoor rainforest in North America we stopped to say hi to Bob, Judy, and Phyllis.
